If you decide to apply to become a U.S. citizen, you will be showing your commitment to the United States and your loyalty to its Constitution by receiving a Certificate of Naturalization (Form 2207) which is provided as proof of citizenship.

Once you have Citizenship in the United States (as defined by Wikipedia below), you will be able to enjoy all rights and full protection by the United States government, having the legal status as described below:

“Citizenship of the United States is a legal status that entails Americans with specific rights duties, and benefits in the United States. It serves as a foundation of fundamental rights derived from and protected by the Constitution and laws of the United States, such as freedom of expressiondue process, and the right to vote (however, not all citizens have the right to vote in all federal elections, for example, those living in Puerto Rico), live and work in the United States, and to receive federal assistance.

The implementation of citizenship requires attitudes including pledging allegiance to the United States and swearing an oath to support and defend the constitution thereof. Certain rights are so fundamental that they are guaranteed to all persons, not just citizens.”

You will be required to attend a Naturalization Interview where you will be asked many questions by a featured Immigration Consultant about the information within your Immigration applications. The Immigration Law Specialist with review your personal background, and you will be required to take an English and Civics Exam unless you qualify for an exemption waiver.

But you have nothing to worry about, as the Fischer & Van Thiel, LLC Immigration Law Firm has the best Immigration Attorneys are here to help you every step of your way working within the guidelines and processes of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, commonly abbreviated as USCIS.

  1. No Fear of Deportation:  You can live in the land of the Free without Fear as a Lawful Citizen. In fact, you will also enjoy having a United States Passport where you can visit countries all over the world and receive assistance at U.S. Embassies and Consulates while traveling abroad.

United States Citizenship Ceremonies

The U.S. Citizenship Process completes with a ritual that is meaningful for many immigrants and it is possible to schedule to be sworn in during Independence Day Ceremonies on the 4th of July.

Many of these Citizenship Ceremonies are conducted at offices of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, yet they, like on Independence Day, may also be held at historic locations like the Arlington National Cemetery. One thing to keep in mind is if the citizenship applicants are also changing their names, it must be approved by a federal judge.

Who Can Apply for  Citizenship and is Eligible for the Naturalization Process?

Understanding who is eligible to apply for U.S. Citizen Naturalization is the best place to start with this Legal Process, as it generally depends on a number of important factors concerning personal aspects:

    • How long you’ve physically lived in the United States
    • Whether you’ve served in the U.S. military (was your service during “peacetime” or “wartime”)
    • Are you a Green Card Holder and Married to a U.S. Citizen?
      • Have you been married to a U.S. citizen for at least three years and lived with your spouse the entire time? If so, you can apply for U.S. citizenship three years after obtaining your green card.
        • Just know that you also must have physically lived in the United States for at least 18 months out of those three years, and your spouse must have been a U.S. citizen for at least three full years.
    • If you’re the widow or widower of a U.S. citizen who died while honorably serving in the U.S. military, you can apply for U.S. citizenship at any time as long as you’re a green card holder at the time of your citizenship interview.
    • If you’ve served in the U.S. military for at least one year during peacetime, you can apply while in active duty or within six months of separating honorably from the military.
    • If you’ve served in the U.S. military for less than one year during peacetime, you can apply for U.S. citizenship five years after obtaining your green card (honorable service within this five-year period can also count as required time), but you may also be required to have physically lived in the United States for at 30 months during those five years.
    • If you’ve served in the U.S. military during wartime, you may apply at any time and do not need to be a Green Card Holder.

General Naturalization Requirements:

    • U.S. Residence:  Generally, five years of continuous residence in the United States (three years or less under certain circumstances such as being married to a United States citizen or serving in the United States military)
    • English Language:  The ability to read, write, and conversationally speak the English Language.
    • U.S. History:  A solid foundation of knowledge about United States History and our Government.
    • Respectable Person:  A U.S. Citizen should be a positive reflection of an American with good moral character and respect for the rights of others.
    • Pledge of Allegiance:  As a U.S. Citizen, we pledge allegiance to the principles of the United States Constitution in support of all U.S. Citizens and our Inalienable Rights.
